Cancer-Free and Enjoying Good Health
When I was 24, I was diagnosed with leukemia (cancer of the blood cells and bone marrow). It was nerve-racking to be given the news and I felt my world fall apart.
I stayed in the hospital for almost a month. I was very depressed about my condition—it was very tough to receive chemotherapy every day. However, deep down inside, I knew God was aware of my struggle and that He wouldn’t let me face the battle alone.
One day, my white blood count was so high that the doctors were concerned. They advised me to undergo a stronger chemotherapy. The side effects were said to be much worse than what I was already experiencing with the ongoing medication. That night, I prayed to God.
Amazingly, my white blood count came down significantly the following day and the doctors said I did not need the stronger treatment anymore. At that moment, I knew God hears my prayers.
During my stay in hospital, I continued to see God’s faithfulness and divine control over my circumstances. I had minimal issues with regard to my condition and my body was able to receive the treatment well.
After my discharge, I still required outpatient chemotherapy for 7 months. During that time, I feared that the treatment wouldn’t work and that my cancer would worsen. Whenever I saw slight issues with my health, I would feel terrified and stressed, and had thoughts about giving up and ending my misery.
However, I kept reminding myself of 2 Bible verses I’d learned from church and from Pastor Prince’s daily devotionals:
• By Jesus’ stripes, I am healed (see Isa. 53:5).
• Christ, who is in me, is greater than anything in the world (see 1 John 4:4).
More proof of God’s goodness was seen when I didn’t fall sick at all during the outpatient chemotherapy. I was even able to work, travel, and hang out with family and friends. I experienced a normal life in spite of the chemotherapy. God truly takes care of His children.
Eight months after I was first diagnosed with cancer, the doctors no longer found any trace of cancer in my blood and declared that I was cancer-free!
Looking back, I wish I had trusted God more to enjoy a stress-free journey to recovery. Nonetheless, God had worked all things together for good. Today I’m enjoying good health and a great relationship with Him!
