Delivered from Addiction to Painkillers After Watching Broadcast
A few years ago, I fell down and broke my leg and ankle. Months after surgery, I was taking pain medication as prescribed by my doctor. However, before I knew it, I became addicted to the medication. I found myself lying to others about it and buying the medication illegally. I was spinning out of control, and being a long-time Christian, it really bothered me that I was behaving like this.
I tried to cut down my usage of the medication, but fears and anxieties about withdrawal effects kept me from succeeding. I even told myself that I needed the medication and that life wouldn’t be the same without it.
Sometime later, I was introduced to Pastor Prince’s message on the gospel of grace. One day, I had just taken 2 narcotics, and I happened to have the television turned on. One of Pastor Prince’s sermons began playing. I heard him share about the freedom of grace, and how Jesus has redeemed us from the curse of the law.
At one point, he looked straight at the camera and said, “To anyone watching this who is in the midst of an addiction, even in the midst of it, you can be set free! Christ has redeemed you by becoming a curse for you. He has bought your freedom with His blood! Jesus said you shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free. And grace is the truth that will set you free.”
I knew then that the Holy Spirit had him say that for me! That night, I went into my room and fell on my knees. Crying, all I managed to say was, “Jesus! Take this! I cannot!” The next morning when I awoke, all my desire for taking narcotics was gone! I was rejuvenated, happy, and alive again. No withdrawals, just perfect joy!
I have been writing all of this into a book, as a testimony of the freedom I have found in Jesus’ grace. It truly is His work of redemption at the cross that has set me free from my addiction. I am filled with tears of joy every time I think about what He has done to set me free.
The battle is truly the Lord’s. The abundant life comes when I receive the grace of Christ. And through His grace, He transforms me, every day. I praise my sweet Abba Father for His superabounding grace and love!
Thank you, Pastor Prince, for the messages you share about our loving Lord Jesus. You don’t realize what a blessing you are to people like me who desired freedom but didn’t know how to receive it. You have taught me that I am transformed not through self-effort, but simply by beholding Jesus. I ask Abba every day to abundantly bless your ministry and I believe He is, Amen! All glory to Jesus!
