God Turns Alimony Payments Into A Blessing
Not long after I arrived in America with my wife, she demanded a divorce. As I was not familiar with the relevant legal procedures, I relied on God’s guidance and my lawyer’s advice.
On 5 June 2010, a simplified divorce court judgment ruled that I had to pay a monthly alimony of $800 until December 2012. The order further specified that my ex-wife had to be going to school to be a beneficiary of the alimony.
However, in July 2012, I received an email informing me about the return of the alimony checks and was told that the returned checks were deposited into an escrow account. By the grace of God, I found out that my ex-wife not only dropped out of school, but she got married and in doing so, lost her rights to claim the alimony.
Before finding out about the returned alimony checks, my job assignment had come to an end due to the expiration of my immigration status. This left me without an income and I was in need of a job and a new work permit to stay in the country. But I was totally unaware of God’s miraculous plans!
Since the alimony was court-ordered, I needed to file a motion to ask the court to have it canceled. God then put it in my heart to gather the information to file a motion. In fact, He opened a very wide door for that to happen because I subsequently received the marriage certificate from her new husband.
As a result, I was able to file the motion in September and on 12 October 2012, which happens to be my birthday, I received a response from the opposing party’s lawyer informing me that the contents of the escrow account belongs to me. That was God saying to me: “Happy birthday, beloved.” With that said, all I needed was the court order.
On 17 January 2013, a hearing was held to determine the outcome. As I am writing this testimony, I hold the court order for the immediate termination of the alimony and release of the escrow account content to me, totaling $8,468.29 as a refund of the unclaimed alimony.
As I waited on the Lord, I was not put to shame. I entrusted the situation into His capable hands and He made all things work together for my good, not because I could claim that I love Him, but because I am His beloved.
Since the new year began, I have also received a new work permit to stay in America and a temporary job. With this, I can stay and work while waiting for my green card, a permanent job and my citizenship.
If it were not for the teachings of Joseph Prince, my faith would not have been strong enough to trust and wait on God to work in my life.
