On May 6, 2014, my husband was admitted to VA Hospital in a bid to save his good leg. His other leg had been amputated above the knee in January 2013. He had also been sick since 2010.

A pastor from Grace Revolution Church (founded by Joseph Prince Ministries) visited my husband in the hospital and prayed for him to receive Christ. That my husband was even open to this was amazing in itself as he has always confessed to not believing in any higher force, let alone God.

In June, my husband had problems breathing and was sent to the Cardiology Intensive Care Unit (CICU). Within a couple of days, he started having complications. The organs in his body started shutting down, which resulted in him being put on life support for his breathing and kidney functions. He was now in a coma. His brother and sister were upset that he was being put on life support and felt that I should unplug everything and let him go. However, I held on and would not do it.

Another three weeks passed and he was still in a coma. His kidneys were still not functioning and he was still not breathing on his own. The staff at the hospital said that I should call my girls to the hospital because the staff would take him off life support. At that point, I felt like I just needed to pray with two or three in Jesus’ name in order to make that decision. So I told the staff that I needed the weekend to decide and would give them my decision the following Monday.

That Sunday, I went to church. The same pastor and two other members prayed with me for my husband’s healing in Jesus’ name. At that point, I took the decision to go ahead, call the girls, and turn the machines off if his next set of blood work tests came back unfavorable.

But on Monday, my husband was awake and alert! His doctors were amazed. They said they had never seen someone come out of a coma so alert. This was a miracle. Within a couple of days, he was taken off the breathing machine, had a temporary access port for his dialysis treatment, and was sent to a step-down hospital room.

However, there was still the open wound on his good leg that was so deep you could see the bones in his foot. He was still doing dialysis three times a week. His kidneys were still only filtering at eighteen percent capacity, with decreasing functionality. He had also lost one hundred pounds by this time.

He was put on antibiotics intravenously and sent home in July 2014. The doctors were not giving him much time. He managed to stay home for ten days but slipped into an active dying phase. He did not know where he was, often thinking he was somewhere else, and became very confused. He also started hallucinating. In addition, he could no longer sit up on his own, take a shower, or even go to the toilet. He was completely bedridden.

Finally, he was readmitted to the VA Hospital. This time, he ended up in the Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) and was put back on breathing support. He was no longer eating, or getting out of bed, as he could not sit up on his own. We even needed a Hoyer lift just to move him in and out of bed.

He was sent home in September not expecting to make it through the holidays. My husband said he just wanted to go home and die. I was told by the hospital staff that I would be lucky if he made it through to Christmas, let alone Thanksgiving. At the time, I asked God to just let him live through the holidays.

His condition was not looking good and by this time I had become very exhausted. I was not sure how much longer I could still keep a smile on my face and not break down completely. I found myself not wanting to get out of bed or go out of the house but I continued listening to Pastor Prince’s sermons and watching him on television. By now, I was at my wits end and came to the conclusion that I could no longer carry this burden and needed to have faith in God and His grace, lean on Him and rest.

So I gave the burden of my husband’s condition to God to carry, knowing no matter which way it turned out, it was now in God’s hands and I was all right with that. Once I did this, I felt peace with myself. Then, everything changed!

My husband began sitting up by himself and became completely independent. At his follow up appointment on November 14, 2014, his blood work report showed that his kidney function was increasing and his foot was healing. We were no longer able to see the bones in his foot. This of course meant that amputating his foot was no longer necessary.

But what was even more amazing was that during the consultation, the doctor kept saying, “I’m sorry if I’m staring at you but you look so good and healthy. This is the best I have ever seen you.” The doctors said they had never had someone with all his complications come out of ICU looking so good and being so healthy. To them his recovery was really a miracle.

It is all to the greater glory of God because with prayer, my husband was saved. Once I gave my burden to Jesus to carry, my husband was miraculously healed. As a believer, I know that because of believing right in our Lord Jesus and His grace, my family receives the same healing and blessings.

This truly is the year of greater glory and God has restored my husband’s health. Not only did God bring my husband back from the brink of death, he is now coming to church with me. I am just sitting back and letting the Lord do His work in my husband.
