Jesus Saved Me From Drowning
I’ve been receiving your Daily Grace Inspirations and on 16 July this year, the message, Just A Groan Will Reach God’s Throne, triggered my memory of an incident that happened back in 2003, in which the Lord saved me from drowning in the sea.
I had spent four years working in India and during that time, I could not indulge in my usual swimming pastime. So upon my return to Singapore in 2003, I decided to take my wife to Changi beach for a swim.
I was a regular swimmer and had fond memories of swimming at that beach. Oftentimes during those early years, I would swim out to the deep, away from the crowd that thronged the beach. That day, as my wife sat under a tree reading the newspaper, I swam out alone.
After swimming for a while, I thought to myself, “Better check how far I am from the shore.” When I turned back, I was shocked to find myself so far out—the people at the beach were like specks! I thought, “Oh no, why did I swim so far out?”
When I turned around to swim back, I realized that the current was sweeping me out to sea. It was as though I was swimming on the spot but worse as I was being pushed further out rapidly. I was tiring fast fighting the current. Then, I saw that I was being pushed past the Singapore Armed Forces jetty. By then, my arms were weighing like a ton and my energy was draining fast.
In my desperation, I cried out repeatedly, “Jesus, save me!” Thoughts of my wife and children flashed through my mind. I could sense that death was near! After I cried out to the Lord, I suddenly realized that I was gaining momentum and going nearer to shore! Just as the current had swept me out to sea earlier, now it felt like someone was pushing me to shore! It was the Lord’s doing! As I headed toward the shore, I heard people shouting at me to steer clear of their fishing lines. I couldn’t care less at that moment, thinking that if the fishing lines got me and pulled me in, it was even better because I was dead tired.
Soon, my legs hit the ground. Hallelujah! I slumped on the beach, too tired to move. The amazing thing was, none of the numerous fishing lines caught me. It was the Lord who saved me! Finally, I struggled back to my wife who didn’t even realize the drama I had at sea. She simply said that she saw my head bobbing up and down in the sea and after a while she couldn’t see me but didn’t think anything was amiss. Yes, my life was bobbing in the sea and the Lord saved me from utter destruction!
The following Sunday, you preached the message, Just A Groan Will Reach The Throne, and I could totally identify with it. It was like the Lord saying to me, “Son, your groan from Changi reached My throne.” Praise the Lord! Jesus is alive!
Pastor Prince, I should have sent this testimony to you way back in 2003, but it’s never too late to give Him praise. Thank you for the message that speaks of God’s attentiveness in our hour of need. Truly, our Lord Jesus is just a call away! Blessings to you, always.
